I had the most amazing birthday thanks to OnBoat! I could not have asked for a better experience. This catamaran had a huge amount of deckspace, just what we needed. Scheduling was super easy with Marc via email and phone. The boat had a great sound system, comfortable chairs, bathrooms, and an icebox.
This was one of the most fun sailing trips I have taken! I used to sail allot when I was a child and didn’t realize how much I missed it till I was out on the water again! The weather was PERFECT! Got splashed a bunch too! We were out for 4 hours and anchored off of Santa Monica pier for lunch and swim. I can‰Ûªt wait to do this again.
Had a perfect experience! Want to start by thanking Captain Jonathan Fleege for being awesome. He was professional yet fun and down to earth. Clearly knew what he was doing — his experience showed — and we felt safe throughout our trip. Me and a group of 12 guys celebrated my 30th birthday. Being a huge planner, I was anxious about confirming things in advance, capacity on board, and food/drink. But everything went off without a hitch! Captain Johnny was super responsive via text (thank you!), the boat was just like the pictures if not better (plenty of space for all of us to enjoy), and they had a mini-fridge and space for our ice (brought our own water and ice). Owner Mauricio keeps a lovely, clean catamaran — it’s named Victoria. This was my first experience with OnBoat and there will certainly be many more. Thanks Johnny, OnBoat, Mauricio, and Omar.
DO NOT BOOK THIS BOAT. Please just trust me and save your money.
Book either another boat on this site or another boat from another site. Varying individuals can list their boat on OnBoat for rental, and there are many other options on this website that would save you frustration and money. Just don’t book this boat unless you want a terrible time.
Last Sunday, Johnny was our captain. He took us out of the harbor only a short distance – less than a mile away from where the boat was docked – and he turned off the engine. We sat there for an hour not going anywhere and staring at nothing. When I asked Johnny nicely if we were going to move out further, he laughed at me and said “we are moving.” I explained that when I booked this rental, the listing stated we would be taken out past Santa Monica and distance listed was about 20 miles, so 10 miles out and 10 back. He condescendingly told me that 10 miles is too far and he has another group after us that he needs to take out and for that reason, we can’t go further.
We sat on the waves and since we weren’t going anywhere and I felt sick, my friend asked so nicely, if we can then go back to the harbor. Johnny’s rude response was something along the lines of, yeah i already told you if you wanted to go back, we can do that. We went back and for the remaining 3 hours, circled the harbor on the boat. Basically we paid $1300… to go in circles.
They also send you an email with instructions for boarding and what’s allowed on the boat. They said drinking water would be provided. We therefore did not bring water. Well there was no water. When I asked Johnny, his response was “I don’t know why they advertise that on the website. That’s wrong” and he gave us a gallon of water that was supposedly for the captain and said we could have that.
I emailed OnBoat about what happened. Explaining our expectations from what we were told the experience would be. That the boat would take us out past Santa Monica and that there was a kayak and paddle board for us to use. Johnny ended up calling me and berating me about how pissed he was that I sent an email to this company filing a complaint. He told me he did what we wanted and went in when we asked. I reminded him that we had asked him to go out further, and because he vehemently and very rudely denied taking us out anywhere , we asked to go back in
I hope this saves you guys time and money. You’ll have a much better experience elsewhere.
